just got my first frame of rainbow static in the middle of a recording to P2 card. anyone else experience this and know how to prevent it in the future?

my hvx is about 3 years old. was shooting 720PN. the recording is fine before and after the glitch.. it's like a dv tape glitch. is this something that might occur every so often?

thanks for any info

No, it should never happen. So the question is: does it happen on playing back from the card? Or only on the footage that's been transferred to the computer?

If it's on the card, you've got a hardware problem and need service.

If it's on the footage on the computer, then it happened during the transfer process. This happens rarely but occasionally, and almost exclusively on systems running OSX, and folks who have reported it, have also reported substantially improved behavior when adopting a two-pronged approach: always write-protecting the card before the computer ever gets a chance to see it, and using a data-verifying copy program instead of just drag 'n' drop.

Its worth noting that we ALWAYS write protect the card and EXCLUSIVELY use P2CMS with the verify function enabled. And yet, I too have had a few of frames in the last year and a half with the glitch. I agree with Barry about the necessity of write protecting and data verification, but can't help but wonder - there must be other reasons why the glitch appears. Unfortunately, the glitch happened on shoots where we did not have the time or man power for visually verify every clip before formatting the cards (and cannot confirm if playback on the cards was sans-glitch).
