FS5: Rain/storm cover for the FS5

Not used either...but what size did you order for the Movo, amazon one? If large, then it is almost the same price, and from the picture looks inferior.

I too would be interested in hearing about the exprience of anyone who has used either brand, especially if it was with the FS5.

I've just ordered the 'small' Movo jacket as well as the Vortex medium (both 17"). Previously Doug Jensen said the medium Vortex cover is the correct size for the FS5. So I assume 17 inches for the Movo should be a similar fit.

Once both turn up I'll decide which one is going back. Incidentally the all in price for the Vortex (including VAT and delivery) is £44.81. Whereas the Movo is £19.95. Thus less than half the price of the Vortex here in the UK.

Both rain covers have now arrived. The Movo is slightly shorter in length than the Vortex, but they both amply cover the FS5 and the extra length doesn't really bring any benefit IMHO. The Movo ssems a bit higher, which might help with attachments.

The material for both is very similar. The Vortex feels ever so slightly thicker. But again not enough to make any practical difference. The Movo material certainly doesn't feel like it will tear any more than the Vortex.

They both come in very similar pouches with the Movo one being slightly bigger.

In light of all of the above I'm sending the Vortex cover back. At less than half the price, I anticipate the Movo will do the job just as well as the Vortex.

There's a couple of quick and dirty iPad photos below with each one covering the FS5. But they probably won't tell you much.

Thank you for giving the Vortex Media Storm Jacket a try anyway. It is quite difficult to compete with a company on pricing that totally rips off our design, material, logo, carrying case, and even right down to the very font we use on the printing. No R&D there, no prototyping, no testing, no feedback from professional photographers to improve the initial design, and no creativity to recognize a need and help find a solution for others. I already did all the work for them. I'm sure thiers are made in China for a few pennies while ours are hand made in the USA by people working at home who otherwise would not be able to find normal work. Quite sad that people have to rip off someone elses idea in such a blatant and obvious way. But I understand that pricing is always a concern for people and I don't blame customers for making the choice they need to make. I sincerely thank your for giving the Vortex cover a try.

Doug

Thank you both. For all sorts of reasons I think I will buy the Vortex Pro variant (as the Pro version has an opening at the bottom, thus allowing easy on-tripod use). Both products depicted above do not - correct?

Hi Doug. I understand where you're coming from, but sadly in my case the decision is being driven by cost. I hardly ever need a rain cover so I can't justify such a difference.

Over the years I've had several of your training dvds/products and most likely will again. On the whole you deliver a good product and I'm confident that's what I'll get when I order. In truth I was hoping there would be a bigger difference between these two products, making it a no brainer.

Andy, as far as I'm aware the Vortext cover I purchased above is the Pro version and it does have the opening at the bottom. But so does the Movo. In both cases the openings are the same length with identical tags for opening the jacket up.
