Rain / Sand covers for the HPX170?

Hi,

Are there any covers designed for the 170 that are out right now?
I have a shoot this weekend in the Mojave Desert so I'll like to buy something to protect it. I'm not sure how well a cover designed for a HVX200 (Petrol, Kata, etc..) will work on an HPX, considering that's it longer.

Thanks

I still haven't seen one in person but the hpx is most like a dvx in size and shape from what panasonic keeps claiming.

I'd just get a dvx cover.

Hi,

I have an HVX200 and I was looking around for a rain cover for ages. I looked at Portabrace, Kata, KTS, LowePro, Camrade etc. All the big names but none seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

I had seen a cheap rain cover on eBay and it looked like the sort of thing I had been searching for but I was dubious about it.

I decided to take the plunge. The item was to come from India, and although the seller had good feedback I wasn't holding my breath.

Well...The cover came and I can honestly say that of all the items I have in my equipment cupboard, this is the best one I have. It cost me less than £30.00 and it's the best £30.00 I have ever spent.

The cover is slightly generic, i.e. it is made to fit a variety of cameras but it fits my HVX perfectly even when I have my mic and Rycote fixed to the camera. It probably feels a bit cheap in comparison to ones made by the big Manufacturers. It allows easy access to all the functions and unlike the PortaBrace it is easy to get on and off the camera.

I absolutely love it. Sometimes the simplest and cheapest solutions are indeed the best.

Here's a link to the item (don't laugh):

If you do get one I hope it works as well for you as it does for me.

The cover should fit the 170 to as there is a fair bit of room inside.

I also like the Kata KT-VA-605-51 but It's more of a jacket for protecting against knocks than rain or sand. Kata also do a version of the one I got from eBay. In-fact I think that mine is a cheap copy of the Kata version but at a quarter of the price.

Weenie.

Thanks for the advice. I really need something for this weekend, so I really am hoping to pick something up locally in Los Angeles. Right now it's looking like the Kata CRC-14 (though I wish they made a Glove cover version for the 170). Any other thoughts?

I bought the CRC-14 and it looks like it will work well. Keep in mind you have to take off the lens hood to put on the cover as the opening for the lens isn't big enough. Once it's on, you can put the lens hood back in place.
