RAID - Sonnet, Caldigit or OWC?

Right now these are my front runners, is there anyone else I should look into as well? I am looking for a raid 5 or 6 set up and am having trouble choosing. The Caldigit equipment is top notch and pricy. Sonnet seems a little more affordable but I have heard mixed feeling about it. Then there is OWC, they are on the very affordable end and I have heard a few many great things about them. If I could dump 6 grand on an array I would jump on the HD Pro. Right now I want to keep it around a grand so I am looking for user experience with the others. How well does a esata system perform in the 720/30p world? Or should I just go for the Caldigit direct link.

SO I guess the main question is what are you guys using and would you recommend it?

Thanks for the other options, now I have more research to do! The Rocket Raid cards do look good, that is a heck of a speed there. Now that I just installed a Decklink Studio card I was doing some speed tests on the internal drives, they suck.

I'm still hoping that I can pick up a used CalDigit raid for a decent price.

I've got a CalDigit HDPro RAID setup, and I absolutely love it. It's more expensive, sure, but peace of mind is worth more to me. They also have the best tech support folks I've ever worked with.

i use both the the owc qx2 raids and a couple of cal digit raids. We use the owc for general backups, extra storage on various secondary machines etc, and they are very stable and a great price/performance drive, but you cannot beat the caldigits for editing HD and daily useage on a main work station. They are whisper quiet and super reliable. Both companies have great tech support, but cal digit seems to be more responsive. If you can afford it you will not regret owning a cal digit raid and from what I hear their new HD pro is a very good upgrade to the original model. If you do go through owc I don't think you'll be disappointed. They are rock solid.

I have been thinking the very same thing. Using some OWC drives for backups and going with the CalDigit for the main editing station. For the time being I may get a OWC to start, then when I need more go to the CalDigit and turn the OWC into the backup drive.
