RAID recommends

If you looking for editing speed, a better and more mobile approach might be either the iStorage Pro Pocket RAID, or the CalDigit VR Mini

doesn't matter how fast the raid is, your limit will always be the fw800. you'll need an esata card for your expresscard slot if you have one to take advantage of at least 200 mb a second with some of these bigger raids. if all you have to work with is the fw800 and no expresscard slot, i'd recommend just getting a raid 0 external and having some single disc backups. or use raid 0 externals for editing, and having 1 raid like the qx2 in raid 5 for all your backups.

don't mean to highjack this thread from OP but I've been learning raid and I have a similer question.

I have a Mac Pro and if I want to do raid 0, is it better doing raid 0 internally ? or will external raid 0 w/ fw800 connection be better?
I'm asking this because, I'm thinking about doing raid 0 internally for speed performance and raid 5 with a external enclosure for my back up files.

Raid O will be the fastest setting and Raid 5 or 10 will be good for backup. That is how I have mine. Raid 0 internal and Raid 10 using the OWC QX2 externally.

I was wondering if anyone has had and experience with OWC's "Mercury Elite-AL Pro Qx2" RAIDS?

It is well built, functional and one of the cheapest raid drives backed by a good customer service.
Having said that, we had a problem with ours after 2 months use; turned out the controller was defective and they changed it free of charge. It is working solid now.
Even though you lack esata connection to take advantage of sata speed, you'd still benefit from having a 8TB space at RAID 0 configuration. So I recommend it.
