Raid External with DVCPRO-HD

So this show is gonna buy me a drive for a 5 week shoot and I have to buy the other one. Being a cheapskate at heart, I'm considering the Western Digital "My Book" 1TB Raid drive as opposed to the 500GB G-Raid at the same price.

Any reason anyone can see not to buy this drive for P2/FS-100 offload as well as 720/24 editing? Fast enough? Reliable enough? Got a better alternative?

Thanks

No RAID required for P2 workflow - you're talking 15 MB/sec MAX, 720p24 is about 6 MB/sec - cake for any modern single drive.

This may be a penny foolish dollar wise issue.

WD MyBooks are great for data storage, iTunes, etc.

But stick with solid enclosures and good Hitachi or Seagate drives when doing work with DVCProHD.

Your data is THE most crucial factor in editing; why relegate it to a bargain basement system.

Stay with solid SATA internal drives.

Get a Firmtek eSATA enclosure and a couple of Western Digital 500GB drives for it -- along with an external SATA card... Speed is great, and small and quiet -- with variable fan speed settings! You can also set it up as RAID 1 or RAID 0...

So David, you'd say go with something like an OWC enclosure and a quality drive instead of a cheaper RAID?

And that would work for editing 720p24 even when it fills up? If so, it seems like a better deal.
