Raglan Surfing Footage @60

Here's a little H264 of a couple of clips I shot in Raglan, NZ. I spent most of the time surfing, so I didn't get a lot of footage. :) For those that don't know, Raglan is famous for being an extremely long wave, which you can see in the last shot--even though this was a small day. The H264 reduces the contrast and adds a ton of artifacts, but you get the general idea...

I know exactly what you mean meta, why shoot video when you get some of those lefts. That place must go off when all the conditions line up.

Were you full zoom at 35 seconds into the clip, the shot looking into the wave? I am going to consider getting a 2x tele in the future, capture some local footage here on the Gold Coast.

Perhaps try experimenting with a faster shutter speed. Thanks for sharing the footage.

I think I was zoomed all the way in in every shot except the timelapse shots and the first shot of the groms on the rocks. Some sort of tele converter would be great for shooting surfing. Does anyone have any recommendations? You'd probably want to couple it with some sort of mattebox or shade to prevent flares and accept NDs.

I'm sure you've seen "September Sessions." You can catch a couple of glimpses of on eof their camera setups, and it's an Arri S on wooden sticks with about a 4 foot lens on it.

Loved the sunrise shot. You could always lash out and get a 35mm adapter then you could add some long tele's to the front and it will look like the old 16mm surfing footage, beautiful.

Thanks for posting.

The Schneider Optics 2.0 Tele-Converter seems the best bet for direct attachement to the HVX. I would prefer something like a 3x for surfing, we always need a lot of zoom.

Peter's suggestion is a good one, something I hope to experiment with down the track. It is going to look something like Jim Arthurs setup, third picture down, wow.

You're there, dude? Why are you posting on this board and not surfing? It must be nighttime. haha Seriously, NZ in general and Raglan specifically was one of the most beautiful and nicest places I've ever been. The people were super cool, the nature was awesome. I hope you guys know how good you have it!

wonder if yo ucan slap that 2x converter on an XLH1/a1 and get like a 2500 mm equivalent lens?!

Gaffing tape man..... Gaffing tape. i made my broken down car run with gaffing tape..... it can do anyhting. it can certianly hold the thing on there....

hehe Tim, however, I hear the 2x tele is heavy as brick. exy brick to drop. Comes with a support for rails, might help, I would not trust with tape though. Indeed, gaffers tape is our savior. I want a 2x also (dream of a 3x).
