Rack Focus

Hello Guys, I'm trying to figure out a focus issue, Probably simple just can't find the answer in any of the guide books I have.

I had it set once. I know there are two ways to do a rack focus, One by setting the focus points in the menu for the current camera position. The other is setting the Area Mode in the menu. I have that set to Focus, and I have it set to User Button 1, Camera focus button is set to Manuel.
but when I press the User 1 Button is says invalid. I had it working one other time, and it works very well, by using the touch screen. Help!:Drogar-Thinking(DBG

You may have focus in manual - thereby "invalidating" the area mode. Switch to auto, press button 1, and you should get the orange area box.

Whoops.. just checked mine. Seems to work in manual AND auto... hmmmm I bumped into the same thing once before but now I can't remember which setting it was conflicting with.

OK... found my notes, I had been playing with VFR in 1080. That and interval (time lapse) locked it out for me. Be sure to turn VRF OFF, rather than just set it to 30 (or whatever is your standard FPS)... I think that's how I locked myself out the lat time.....

Well I checked my settings and VFR is not on, For User-1 I have Focus Area chosen. I'm set up as UHD 24fps, SS of 1/50th . If I turn auto focus on, a orange box pops up, but when I try to touch the screen it goes to the Scene File choices screen. Weird! with auto focus off, it says invalid.

Hmm... that's a weird one. Been messing with my camera just before I typed this and it certainly doesn't seem to duplicate what you described. However, I have put in v1.81 (I think that's it, the latest firmware update) last week and from what I recall I haven't been able to lock myself out of the area mode. Seems like that happened a lot prior. Not saying the firmware fixed anything, and it could be coincidence. Wouldn't hurt to reload it again (it won't mess up scene files) and see if anything changes.

I already have the latest F V1.81. Help BARRY GREEN! LOL!

Hi Michael,
your not alone! I have more or less the same issue. I'm running v1.81 and have area focus on user one. If I press user one the Cam says "denied"...
But on the screen overlay on the right upper side it display "area". But no area frame (or box). And it is denied either in FHD 50p or UHD 50p.
I can not do any test right now, because I'm in Japan at the moment and the DVX200 is at home. I travel just with the little X929 (in FHD it makes more crisp footage than the 200...)
Cheers!

@bpap
if I understand thetreat correctly, we discuss about area focus and not about focus transition. Sorry.
Can you explain why it is not a good idea to have area focus on button 1?

@Excalibur

I think we are talking about both and I wrote "It is no good idea to use button 1 for setup focus transition".

I tested it this way - I have first to go to the menu and enable the focus transition and make the setup.

After setup is finished you can use the focus transition by using the user-button 1-3 for to go to your transition points as you can see in barrys video and can read in the manual Vol2. or in the handbook.

After setup is finished you can push the button 1 to start focus-transition, push once more button 1 point 1 is focused, push button 2 point 2 is focused, push button 3 point 3 is focused, push button 2 point 2 is again focused etc.

If focus transistion setup is not yet done, it is not possible to start the focus transition with user button 1.
You get the massage "invalid" or in German "Ungültig".

I hope I have explained the right way.

The area mode I set to a user button on the display because I think the handling is faster as for looking first to a button at the body. If you like area mode on user button 1 you can do it.

FWIW, been messing about with my camera and I can't get it to lock me out of area mode like I somehow managed to do a few weeks ago and I don't really have a clue if it was self induced (probably) or "something" changed!
