GH4 Racially Diverse Skin Tones OOC, with a mod. Standard profile

Shot at Monterey's International Day Parade, in 4:3 4K-Photo mode at high SS to pull stills for my granddaughter's Folklorico dance group. I was impressed with the rendering OOC of Asian, African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian skin tones on both my calibrated monitor and 55" UHD TV. i've used the below settings for the past year for outside shooting.

"Standard" color profile with -2/+1/0/-2/-1 offsets and Highlight/Shadow -3/+2. Auto WB. 0-255, Ped. 0, no iExp. No adjustments in a quick Wondershare rendering to 1080 30p @30mbps.

Does have a nice natural, but still saturated, look. I couldn't help but chuckle at the ultra-white dude dancing with the dragon. ;-)

Did you do tests to arrive at these settings, or use some other rationale? Was camera set on S or angle? and what shutter speed?

First, camera set on A - f/6.3, with no ND filter. As I mentioned in the OP, the intent of these clips was to pull stills in 4K Photo 4:3 for printing, I wanted to keep SS high to stop motion, and get relatively deep DOF. Thus the strobing. And I should have cut the terrible pan from the Folklorico dancing girls to the animated Chinese dragon, which was much smoother in the original 4K footage. But I was struck by how good the varied skin tones looked to me - thus the post.

In my two years with the GH4 I've tried to find "outside" settings that, to my eyes, were pleasing straight OOC. My goal is not ultimate DR - but Standard seems best to me with the minor tweaks and the S/H curve. Auto WB, with the -1 Hue setting, seems spot-on for neutral grayscale in most instances. I went the CineV/D rout initially (too contrasty/too flat), then Portrait and Natural settings rec'd on this forum and others - finally pretty happy with the current ones. I us it for more serious performance work with Sat. and Con. -5, and do a bit of PP adjustments.

So how do the skin tone, etc look to you?

Peter

Thanks for your reply. I forgot to post that colors and skins look great (that's why I wanted more details about your settings).
