New vid I shot last month in Denver for Deon Wilson. Not exactly what I wanted to do concept wise, but it's what the client wanted. Shot w/ hacked GH2, SLR Magic 12mm 1.6 & SLR Magic 35mm 1.4. Thanks!

I liked it except for a couple of things.
The first shot were you introduce the Artist on the roller bed in the hospital is very disturbing. The weird upside down reverse dutch angle or whatever you want to call it looks very off. Honestly you did not need it. Also that scene could have used some lighting, the point of view shot was cool though.

The main performance scene was honestly the worst part of the video. Ugly black and white crush, handheld and the shots going in and out of focus, totally off. Should have maintained your camera on a tripod or slider system and kept this shot clean. Maybe even by himself, no need to have the girl with him there since she is also in the entire video.

I love the way the 12mm looks, but I would not use it that close to their faces as it distorts the image. Possibly a longer lens such as a 50-85 mm would be better for those shots.
Overall I really like the concept and all of the work put into the project. I think the edit could have been tighter as at times certain scenes seem like they drag.

Would have been cool to actually start the video where the fight happened, then bring it back. Overall though for you doing everything and possibly not having a budget I would say good job. Tripod shots are called for in certain scenarios as well as longer lenses, also be careful with videos drifting in and out of focus unless you are doing it artistically.
Keep working you have a good vision that I feel could be polished up and bring your projects to the next level

peace

Personally I like the crushed black look, I wondered if the in and out of focus was intentional. I don't mind handheld in a music video as it's a catch 22 to a degree, if the video was just on a tripod or slider it wouldn't look as animated as it does.

The handheld, in and out focus is popular in music videos right now. I agree though, I didn't like the black and white performance, it looks like big black circles around her eyes, it's distracting. The scene where he's bleeding could be taken out, really does nothing for the vid, not to mention, the girl looks happy when she's kneeling next to him. (Have to wonder if she set him up to get his ass beat. lol.) seriously though, everything else looks good. The video is much better than the pathetically cliché song, thats for sure.

Possibly a homage to Carlito's Way there.

I'll echo your comments about the 12mm. I wouldn't have used it on this video.

The thing that bother me the most was the extremely crushed black and white. The beginning hospital shot was cool but I don't think you should have cut in the middle of it because the audience want to be oriented before the cut. I think it's a fairly decent job
