Hi,
i would like to put a quotation at the end of my movie (a short quotation of 2 lines from Michel Foucault)

Usually in movies, the quotation is at the very beginning of the movie.

Is there situation where you can put it at the very end of the movie ?

Thanks in advance,

Yeah raging bull ended with a quotation - from the bible about

"So, for the second time, [the Pharisees]summoned the man who had been blind and said:'Speak the truth before God.We know this fellow is a sinner.''Whether or not he is a sinner, I do not know.'the man replied.'All I know is this:once I was blind and now I can see.' John IX. 24-26 the New English Bible"

If the quote comes from some kind of copyrighted material -- book, magazine article, documentary interview, etc. -- then you may very well need to secure the rights to use that quote.

It's always better to be covered.

But no one's gonna care about a Michael Foucalt quote at the end of delueze's film.

From what I know of Foucault, I can't imagine he would care one way or another who used his quotations or how. He probably would dismiss the whole notion of copyright as a tool of repressive capitalists, and prefer intellectual anarchy.

But I'm not sure his heirs and/or publishers would necessarily feel the same way about it.

If the quote is from a book, then the rights most likely belong to the book's publisher, not the author himself. And regardless of what Foucault may have thought about copyright (while he was alive), it is still the law of the land.

I assume you're making a movie with the hope of getting distribution. Do you think the distributor will be concerned about whether or not you have the rights to use the quote? I'm betting they will.

When in doubt, consult a qualified entertainment attorney.
