Quiet or noisy?

When you go to sleep or while working.

Do you prefer noise, music or nothing at all?

I have an old TV running 24/7 just so I can hear the noise coming from it.
I find it acts as a sound buffer to block out other distracting sounds.

Anymore, absolute silence bugs me.

That's normal. Right?

Quiet when I'm sleeping, I like a little noise in the day. I'm a city boy so I like to hear stuff happening around me. Don't like the sirens so much but other than that, it's cool.

Sleeping I need to have a tv going on in the background.
I'll lay there for an hour or more thinking about stuff if its too quiet.
If I throw a stand up comedy special on when im tired I'll be out in 5 mins ;)

I'm all about the sleep timer on my TV. If the isn't on, I have a harder time falling asleep. If it doesn't turn itself off, it'll wake me back up in 2 hours and then I'm hosed. It always frustrates me on the road to be in a hotel room with a TV that has no sleep timer. One would think that to be a pretty reasonable feature on a hotel TV, but even some of the better hotels out there often neglect this crucial item.

We have a fan going in the summer and a humidifier in the winter. Silence makes it nearly impossible for me to sleep.

I'm with horse. I used to sleep in complete silence, but find it makes me almost self conscience about my breathing, swallowing and tossing/turning.

I've now got an air purifier. It ROCKS. It's pretty loud, but after two weeks with it, I can't imagine trying to sleep with it off.

I've never understood the tv thing. I just can't fall asleep with it on; I end up listening to it. And, if by chance I fall asleep on the couch for a nap while the tv is on, I ALWAYS wake up to when the movie's over and the credits are rolling (the change from dialogue to straight music wakes me).

The hum of a fan is needed. Dead silence keeps me awake. Dead silence creeps me out more than anything, you hear the house settling in the far distance, a car outside, and who knows what else...

I think it's pretty normal for people to need a sound barrier of sorts. When you get used to a sound it's strange to be without it. Like how people living near a highway get used to it.
