QuickTime conversion madness

Hi all,

I use FCP and a dual G5. I was curious if anybody has had this problem before... I recently made some test footage of my jib/dolly. It all looks great as I watch it in FCP, but when I use Quicktime Conversion to export it for the web it has a digital "jitter" throughout the footage. Here is the clip:

I have tried about every compression setting. Sorenson, Sorenson 3, H.264; MPEG-4, etc. I adjusted the number of frames to be keyed all the way down to one; tried different quality settings; and on and on.

The footage has the effect on my Mac, my PC, and my friends PC. It has the "jitter" effect weather I play it from my web space or from the file on my computer.

After looking at some of the clips that I have posted on my website in the past, I realized that they too have this "jitter" effect. I think that it is just more noticeable in the jib/dolly clip above because of the camera movement.

Has anybody ever had this problem before or can somebody help me figure this out. I have spent days pounding away at this and it is driving me crazy.

:furious3:

Thanks!

Nice link. This would make sense. I will give this a try and post what happens. I hope it fixed the problem!

Thanks

I checked my settings. All were set to lower field first as they should be. This is driving me crazy.
:crybaby:

Is it jitter?

Is it jitter?

Snodart,
I've checked the footage you had, but it didn't look jittery to me. Did you fix it or
do I need to go see a doctor? Nevertheless, I found your audio clipping though.
I think your music's been imported as 44.1KHz, not 48KHz.

That's odd. I've checked it on 3 different computers via the internet and all had the jitter. None of them had audio clipping. Maybe it is a video card and sound card issue for specific computers. I'm about ready to give up. Frustrating. I love camera movemnt and will be posting most of my shorts on the web for now. I hate that it might look "jittery" for some. Hmmmm.

Footage being jittery.

Footage being jittery.

snodart,
Could you tell me what format the footage was shot (e.g. DV/DVCPro, fps, etc)?
Just making sure if there was anything different from the format that you shot with when you were compressing the video. I don't know if it makes sense, but
I'd suggest you to select the sequence that you want to export in the browser
window. If you tried that already, please ignore. I'm sure there's something that
we're missing. Let's solve this together. I hate when that happens.

Footage was shot as standard DV (30fps).

I'd suggest you to select the sequence that you want to export in the browser
window.

I'm not sure what you mean by this...

Let's solve this together. I hate when that happens.

Wow. Sounds great. Compression can be very tricky to get the best out of it.

I was watching a clip from a website the other day (not mine) and it had the same issue. I have also watched many other clips, and they don't have the problem. Not sure that this info helps....
