Quicktime 7.1 and Vegas export = Baaad

So I have noticed alot of people having quicktime trouble exporting from vegas, not only on this forum, but on the sony vegas forum. Well, now it is happening to me as well, and I think I have tracked the problem down to the new version of quicktime 7.1. For some reason my quicktimes are either not rendering at all, or are suddenly very very specific about the frame sizes that are needed, ie I can no longer render a quicktime with square pixels (873x480) whereas I have always been able to do that in the past. I consistantly get the same error, and it seems to actually be linked to an audio issue, becuase when the render fails, the audio in the timline is extremely messed up. Now at first I thought it was just my computer, but I have tried the same renders on my laptop with the exact same issues, and both of these computers have different sound cards. This never happend before quicktime 7.1, does anyone know where I can go to get the older version of quicktime 7.0, so i can atleast test my theory?

Considering how new Quicktime 7.1 is, it's very possible that changes were made that make it incompatible with the latest update of Vegas (as the latest update of Vegas came out before Quicktime 7.1). Personally, I don't install the latest versions of software that I need to work with other apps until reliable compatibility can be confirmed.

I don't know about Quicktime 7.0, but it appears some previous versions of Quicktime are available at:

scharky, how is th theory coming? Just got vegas 6.0d and of course downloaded QT7.1 prior. Interested in your findings.

Well, it seems like my quicktime theory was false. It turns out that switching the audio driver off of the microsoft one solved the problem. Now here is the weird thing. It was exactly the same problem on both of my systems, one laptop and one Desktop, and it never happend before a couple days ago, after I installed Quicktime 7.2. Another weird thing is that it only affected quicktime renders, everything else worked fine. So what does this tell me? Well absolutly nothing. But if anyone should come across the similar problem, switching the microsoft audio driver to something else seemed to work fine.

I have had no problems rendering out raw quicktime files...but going to h.264 directly from vegas has always given me issues.....I wanted to try your solution. Are you saying switch to a different driver in device manager, control panel (sound and audio devices) or somewhere in vegas....can you give any more detail about exactly what you are switching....I don't believe I am using a microsoft audio driver currently...anyway I thought I might give it a shot to fix my problem. Thanks.

It is under options and then the audio tab. I think by default it uses the Microsoft audio driver. Havn't tried to render out any h.264 recently, but in the past I had the same issue, I'll have to try it out.
