I have had some issues with the quickstream dv with both of my pani dvx100a's. I am on my third quickstream now, the first two were both defective. (both died about 30 minutes into a shoot). Now I am onto the third one and I am just having issues with it. Sometimes when I turn the camera off and back on, the quickstream doesn't record when I hit the button, but sometimes it does. When it doesn't, I have to turn it off and back on which takes forever and a day. Then at the end of the night, i look down and when i stop recording on the camera, the quickstream didn't turn off and it is still recording. I am getting so sick of this thing. Are you people having these problems?

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

yes... seems like Quickstream is taking a free for all downhill plunge.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Yikes! I better get my money back ASAP for this thing!

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

yes its too bad.. at the beggining they where great, they responded to emails very quick and offered us a pretty nice discount.. Now they wont respond to my emails and problems seem to be more common than not.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Well I just got off the phone with Arnie at MCETech. They are sending me out a sheilded cable to test that first. They have so far been very nice with their customer service, I just hope the product would be as good as the customer service. We'll see what happens.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

yeah, arnie is the "man" at mce tech...i live close so i brought my quickstreams over there.  arnie is a cool guy and understood my complaints and was supportive.  after 3 bad quickstreams, i came to the conclusion that it's not ready as a tapeless solution.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

boo you went through 3 and Kyle you are on your 3rd?  I can't believe these things are still for sale if they suck so much...I wish there was a good solution for tapeless recording out there...The day will come  :-/

"I wish there was a good solution for tapeless recording out there...The day will come"

yeah, it's called the firestore fs-3....

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

yes,, Arnie is a very nice man, and probally is busting his guys to get a new firmware out, Im sure that will turn the Quickstream right around.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

I got my quickstream a week ago. The first time I used it I got nothing. The second time worked. Since then I check to make sure the light on top goes purple.

I ran 2 full record tests with it, putting almost 4.5 hrs. Each was ok.

I will definitly be using tape as backup with it, but hopefully it will work 90% of the time.

I do need to do a test where I put a tape, hit the manual record on the QS, start the tape and see if the QS turns off when I start the tape. I want the QS to buffer the tape loading time when switching, and that cant happen if it turns off when I start taping. So I am not sure if the QS knows that the cam is recording to tape or just that the button has been pressed

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Just talked with Arnie today....wonderful guy. He says that once communication is established, the QS should respond to the camera's record button without fail. You should turn on the camera's power first and cycle the QuickStream's power, if communication is not established.

BTW...he is sending me a new firmware update which causes the QS to ignore a "record start/stop" signal following an end of tape signal. This will permit changing tapes without interupting recording to the QS.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Another great idea that has essentially failed in the guinea pig beta stage--We make it, you buy it, test our $1000 idea at your expense, then give us feedback to fix our $1000 prototype idea in a box...(special emphasis on the $1000 because this is no dime store purchase).

Hmmmm. Doesn't sound like the kind of logic I'd use to buy much of anything. That being said--I'm still prone to the same mistake for a hottie item. Which is one good reason why I'm in this forum.

MCE owes it to it's customers to get it right. I'm not interested in a $1000 (or any) product that is 90% effective in a crunch situation. I was ready to order but will chill out till I'm convinced they got it right. And I don't mean 90% right.

Still Jared--excellent review; thanks for the update. We're all pulling for MCE! We all want to see a good idea work--just not at our expense. MCE a good company--need to test more. May be to their benefit to have DVX.user in on beta testing since they appear to be more into the computer aspect. Apple does it thru open sourcing. Maybe Panasonic ought to open up more.

Let's hope for the best!

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Turk,

A little unfair here. MCE has assured me my purchase will be refunded, if I'm not happy. I don't feel like a guinea pig. For my purposes, it will work perfectly. For most event videographers, it fills the bill.

Run-n-gun? No dice, I'd want my money back until the firmware was perfected.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

I'm waiting patiently to buy mine. What does Arnie say about all this hoopla?!?

Seems like there should be some sort of statement from MCE...if they want to keep and build customers.

He says 95% of their customers have had no problems with their units. Also he says that once communication is established, they function flawlessly. If they don't, you have a defective unit.

On the side, who among us has not had a communication problem whith each and every DV device at some point?

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

MCE actually dropped the link to our review because I added to the review that there was some problems. I guess that wasn't very diplomatic of me, and  I guess they wont be sending me the Quickstream II ha ha.

Seriously though, 8 out of 10 people I know that have bought the unit has had problems, that is not normal to me.. nor is it acceptable given the consequences of what happens if it fails.  I don't really care if me saying that pisses MCE off, I care about you guys 100X more.

Agreed, but in reading the posts, I wonder how many problems were due to the user not realizing that the record light being on is not enough to confirm operation. The blue light needs to turn purple as well. Oddly, this light is not addressed in the manual.

Re: Quickstream DV issues/questions....

Yes... I do understand there is some operational problems that are user based, but I know there was a few that were not.

Im not trying to come down to hard on MCE, I just want to be clear that there where some problems people where having. Its no big deal, every company has them, and the Quickstream for what it is if you get one that works is a great product.
