QUICKLAPSE: shooting with D800 at 4K

I had some troubles with my Sony camera in Iceland, so I was stucked with only the D800. Now, I am not a fan of DSLR footage, specially in such contrasty and detailed environments. So... I decided to shoot some video in a less conventional way together with some extra help from AE. And here you go!!!

Hola Miguel,

Beautiful footage! Stupid youtube compression. I couldn't tell that it was in 4K resolution :)

Ps. It looks cold there.

Hey Macgregor,

That footage is fantastic! Simply beautiful! I have not seen anything like that come out of a D800 yet...especially my own! :undecided Could you share your technique of how you made this film? Thanks!

Lol, haha as I explained in the youtube comment, I shoot at 5fps burst for as long as I want. JPG at mid size. You can get away with camera moves and if you feel the shot is too fast, I use AE to slow it down back to real time. It does some great magic with scenes where there are no changes. Those pans for example are perfectly interpolated back to real time and they were shot at 5fps.

wow
dark magic indeed
I wouldn't have guessed
I'm sure I'd find artifacts now if I looked for them, but you fooled me completely when I didn't know

I wish you had done a side by side using video mode :) so we could see the difference.

I'm really tempted by the GH3, but I'm also thinking why not spend the extra $1.5 and get a D800. This way I could build a set of FF lenses that I actually will be using years from now, vs m43, which is specific to one or two cameras.

Good morning Macgregor,

Thanks for the reply! I kind of figured what you were doing although I have never attempted. It is a most creative technique. The look of real time from images collected in much slower time was truly spectacular! I would love to see more!! Of course your choice of subjects and time of day (lighting) was spot on as well. Very inspiring. Thanks again.

Hey MacGregor,

What is AE?

So, it's basically, pictures on burst mode... I just don't know what AE is :cheesy:
