Quick Transfer and Backups of files.

Hello, i am a 16 year old student attending a performing arts high school and i have been very very busy with final papers as well as final exams. You also may not know this but i am a young film maker and starting February 6th, 2010 thru February 20th, 2010 i will be filming a documentary in Uganda, Africa. While in Africa i plan to have a couple hard drives with me to help back up all of my footage multiple times. However i have noticed that on my Macbook pro Final Cut Pro makes very large files when it log and transfers. And large files are not a problem when i get back home but over there i will only have around 1.5TB of space to use. My question is that if i completely copy all of the contents of the card over to my hard drives (because they are still the compressed files) will there be any problems transferring them later. I would rename the PRIVATE folder to the date and log number but i have tried it once at home and it seemed to transfer just fine! If you have any other suggestions of ways to keep space to a minimum but still 1080 24P then please let me know but other than that let me know if what i plan to do should work. Thanks

You need to keep the file structure intact. I wouldn't recommend renaming the private folder, rather I would create a new folder with the date and put the private folder in there. Thats typically how I back up my footage.

I just used this unit in Haiti and it worked flawlessly. I have the ND2700 with 320 Gigs. I dumped the footage in the field then transferred the data to my larger HD later on. It transfers at 40 seconds per gig, super fast, and it's rechargeable. If you have any questions please ask.

I used a solar powered bag to charge my HMC150 and the NEXTO.

Mobile Solutions for the HMC150

I am back from my Trip and everything from a technical standpoint worked out great.

1. Memory Cards and Back Up - The NextoDI Extreme worked like a dream! I travelled with 3 16gb cards (2 Kingston and 1 Adata) and I backed up (actually used the move function) 90 Gigs of footage.

2. Power and Batteries - I used the Voltaic Solar Messenger Bag to charge my HMC150 camera battery, Nexto Di and iPhone. I had access to a car several times so I used a car charger in between stops. I traveled with the standard HMC150 battery and one extended battery from Panasonic and it worked great switching between the two batteries.

3. Lighting - I used the MicroPro Light Panel for lighting. I only used one set of six Lithium Batteries and they are still going.

4. Sound - Rode NTG 2, Rode Dead Cat, On Camera Shock Mount.

I hope anyone reading this will learn from my experience and know that they too can film anywhere and go anywhere with the HMC150.

Thanks!
