Quick track and dolly clip for website

Well, the shot is smooth so thats good. When you zoomed back out and started to dolly again to move him out of the frame, I was expecting for you to like "follow" through and move towards the right. So that kinda threw me.

follow through

follow through

yeah, i wanted to do that... but im still trying to figure out a solid, and smooth, way to interconnect more track segments. my track just simply wasn't long enough.

That makes sense, after I posted, I was actually thinking that the reason for not continuing on the right was that your track wasn't long enough.

I noticed a small jerk right before you zoomed in, but I mean it was very very smooth motion looked great! I've been thinking about making a dolly like that, how much did it cost you to make that one?

the jerk was my hand reaching to turn the zoom ring and banging into the body of the camera first =) total cost for the dolly? probably, since i had to buy everything for it, close to $50 but it produces very nice shots. my only problems so far are 1.) interconnecting pieces and 2.) its such a huge dolly! i will post pictures soon.

Very smooth apart from your bump. Good idea for an "under construction". Very cheesy which I liked.

What are you using for track?

I was shooting something in a similar situation the other day and I couldn't get rid of that hard shadow of the head against the wall. Then, I tried having a light shine towards the shadow but that just created a shadow on the other side of the subject. So how does one light that kind of shot in order to avoid those hard shadows against the wall?

Also, what's the name of the song?

The first, and easiest way is just to flag it off the wall, keeping the light on the subject's face.

If you can't flag it, then you can get the light considerably higher, and that'll lower the shadow.

I also am curious what flagging means?

Kyleman, were you using the design out of the Killer Camera Rigs book?

for your track join try using a small peice of the PVC... cut a piece out of it long ways. Then you can jam half of it into two ends of PVC and the friction will hopefully hold it.

I was gonna suggest the same thing...use the same pipe but cut a section out and glue it in the end of every section you have so that you can always have a connecter ready to use in any position. If you make it strong enough maybe you could make some twist and loops like a roller coaster? :)
