Quick start guide for newbies to GH2..

Greetings all,

I think I will be echoing the pains of many first time users of the GH2 in terms of the pretty horribly laid out manual and the confusing menu operations. If there's a stalwart experienced GH1/GH2 person who'd be so kind as to put things into more simplified and excellent terms I know I would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to list a few of the things that I find confusing and need help understanding and others please chime in accordingly. I'm not one who's not into reading the manual, I did that first thing and I've checked the forums for info.... I'm not lazy but this is quite a bit different setup than the other broadcast cameras I used, and I know that cause there's a party and pet setting somewhere on the camera.... I do appreciate this and any and all assistance is appreciated. The camera is awesome and I just want to get over the learning curve and get onto shooting... cheers..

My questions are pertaining to...

How do I set up 60p? 30p? What's the best setting for 24p? Is there an advantage over using the cinema model dial? What's a good setup to be able to go back and forth from stills to video? Is there a way to set up something to use the teleconverter and then also flip it off and shoot normal?

What's the options for focus tracking? Locked? Etc?

Thanks one and all and have a great Holiday season....

Also on the still side, is there an option to shoot Raw for some photos and Jpegs for other? And.. finally... how is the aperature priority mode? I used to shoot a lot of quick event stuff like this with the 7D...

cheers

I don't have my GH2s yet, but one thing I do with everything is download the PDF of the manuals, and then use Adobe Reader to do searches. It is soooo much faster and quicker than using a table of contents or index.

I don't find the menus intuitive either or the on screen displays. Not like broadcast cams or even 7d which are straightforward. And its a big adjustment hitting those tiny buttons and also I feel like I'm always about to drop the cam! But the tiny gh2 gets these great wtf footages! Good thing in a small form.

That's a good idea on the PDF download... and I'm going to check out that tread... Thanks one and all.

I believe this is what you are looking for. It is detailed enough to get you up and going into your first project and is regularly expanded, plus its free! its meant to get you up to speed quickly yet deep enough to learn the ins and outs especially the hacking stuff.

This video is a little more than a simple setup guide. However, it will give you tips that can answer all of the questions you asked.
