Quick Sample

The second clip looks like you've duplicated the video layer, gaussian blurred the top one, and used an ovular (or perhaps custom) mask to show through on the girl, drawing her into focus. it's an interesting look, with the focal plane being from side to side instead of forth and back.

I like the look of this footage very much.

Yeah, it's nice footage. I love the textures of the crisp field vs the soft trees in the distance. It reminds me somewhat of the effect you get with a Holga with its plastic lense. It really has a claustrophobic effect that draws you in. Maybe adding a slight vignette could intensify this effect. I want to mess with this as soon as I learn FCP.

Thanks. Yeah thats basically about what I did to get a fake dof kinda effect. I do all my post in AE, only use FCP to edit and capture.

cool footy man

your site looks rad too, I especially enjoyed that thailand video... the DOF effects on the flyover plane shots give it a very miniature/scale model feel.... the editing was cool too

I am sure it sucked at the time, but the water on the lens was a nice touch to the scene....

Nice site as well!
How did you get that great DOF on the Thailand short? It set a really nice mood for the piece; made me want to go there...

cheers,

The DOF on Thailand clip is all just After Effects post. Just using stock lens, I use the century wide angle sometimes in some of the Thailand clip but not very often. As far as more clips, I do have some stock that I have created for YouWorkForThem. These are various clips from my travels or experiments.

Thanks Designgraphik!

You other stuff looks great as well...

Any chance you know how to make that blur effect in fcp? Thanks again!

No problem. Like I was saying, I do all my post via After effects, no idea in FCP. In AE, I am just using a circular mask, fade the mask edges, and apply a blur and some -brightness/+contrast on same mask to give a fake vignette.

Greetings Mr. Young, nice to see you on DVXuser!

Your work has been a great inspiration for the past....7-8 years - this is no exception. You have had a tremendous impact on new-media design, and I love seeing your visual style applied to more videowork. I had seen the Thailand footage already, but I stopped visiting YWFT because I'm always tempted to spend alot of money, so thanks for linking the shots here. :)

Designgraphic (don't know your real name).

You have some really cool stuff on your site and a very interesting unique way of telling stories. I was transfixed by your visuals. You're going to go a long way.

The shot I liked the most in all of your material is the shot in the little film about the guy who comes home and gets shot. There's a shot near the end with the farm and the red square going towards the farm and you have all these little white dots in the sky. How did you acheive that effect (with all the white dots)? I assume it's in After Effects but is it difficult? (I only know the bare essentials of the program). If you could explain how you did that, I'd appreciate it.

Best,
Chris

Hoof: yeah go for it, snag a set from us!

rslv: thanks and glad you have been watching my work for that long. Yeah I like these forums, read alot of them for hardware purposes. But dont be afraid of ywft! Stop on by and browse around! :)

cg: Thanks and yes the dots are particles just masked over the photo, and yes after effects....I do all my work in after effects, nothing else...

well I didnt literally mean STEAL one of your shots..... I was just gonna do a setup and shoot some shots that are very similar to those, they look awesome.... will come in handy for all sorts of graphic/efx stuff

but thanks though!
