Quick Question

Hey guys, I just bought my Shotgon Mic, just wondering when I hook up the XL cable, do I turn down the Left Audio on the DVX to 0 and just use the shotgun Audio or should I use both Left and Right Audio? Hope this question is not confusing. If it is, I'll rephrase it.

Hope someone can answer this for me, I begin filming my movie soon.

Thanks.

Some do this:
record the shotgun audio on both left and right channel, but with different levels. That way, you can use the audio channel later that has the best level.

This is one of those great little "tricks" that can make all the difference in the world, more so with lavs than with shotguns. If the talent pops one thier plosives, the lower channel will still be usable.

It's saved my butt COUNTLESS times!

Ok, I haven't recieved my Mic in the mail yet, for some reason I thought the Mic came with only 1 XLR input cable. So when I get the Mic I should be able to plug it in both the Audio 1 & Audio 2 XLR inputs on the DVX100a?

For reference the Mic I purchase is the Rode NTG-2 Shotgun

Yep. Plug the XLR into input 2 and set both channels to that input.

How do I do this, do I have to go on the menu on the DVX or it's all physical?

No, you only need to plug it into one of the XLR jacks. There are physical switches under the LCD screen that let you select which audio channel you are recording onto. Just set both of them to two and then adjust your levels accordingly.
