Quick Question

If you at times need to shoot DV to tape than go with the HVX. If you don't go with the HPX. In addition, I prefer the larger diameter lens of the HVX over the smaller HPX.

I prefer the larger diameter lens of the HVX over the smaller HPX.

Glad to see someone else still likes the HVX....since I bought mine 8 months ago all I have been reading is how great the 170 is. I actually used both and kinda prefer the 200 myself (maybe I'm biased) !

the 200a (not the 200) may be the answer for you. many of the general features of the 170 but still has the DV tape (SD ONLY) option.

The 170 and 200A are better in low light than the 200, in case that's a concern for you.

If you are looking at new cameras:

As Jim mentioned, if you have a need for tape, go with the HVX200A.

Otherwise, the HVX200A comes with a standard one year warranty. The HPX170 has an extended five year warranty, and it's less expensive. They both come with a 16GB P2 card.

If you are looking at used cameras:

The improvements from the HVX200 to the HVX200A are such, that if you can pick up a 200A then go for it. Depending on your budget constraints, however, the HVX200 is the cheapest option.
