is there anyway of recording from my dvx100b or hv30 directly to a hard drive or computer? i know its kind of a noob question but please forgive me and answer maturely please. thanks in advanced.

Pretty much any NLE will allow direct capture of firewire feed from a DV camcorder like the DVX; whether or not you're able to capture as 24p may depend on the NLE.

Many will do the same for HDV.

The best solution, though, is Adobe OnLocation, formerly DVRack.
