quick question about sharpness settings.

DVX has a settings of -7 to +7

is "0" no processing , then up or down respectively softens or sharpens the image?
or is -7 the natural image, and it's really 15 levels of sharpening?

Thanks in advance, hope made sense:happy:.

Oh, and another question, Can anyone explain exactly what the V detail does?

I've read that is sharpens outlines and not detail, is that true?

Thanks again.

It made sense, and you are correct.

V. Detail is sort of like a contrast control, but between horizontal lines in the image. It doesn't add edge enhancement, like the Detail Level does; it just increases contrast. So, if you have a light-colored line against a dark one, it'll make the contrast more pronounced, hence a bit more visible. It's a fairly subtle effect.

This is a good question to ask since for some devices the natural image isn't even at the middle or the lowest value. (My TV's sharpness ranges from -10 to +10 but the point that has no processing is at -7 for some reason)

I'm not 100% sure but -7 is no processing (or at least the lowest amount) and anything higher adds edge enhancement. There is a certain point (something like -3 or -4) where the edge enhancement starts to become particularly noticeable. I always use -7 though.

thanks guys,
my thoughts were to have no sharpening on at all, then have the option to post (why mess around with it more than you have to.

but i guess it's not that simple, since it sharpens BEFORE its encoded to mpeg, it actualy works much better on the camera. visa versa i get quite visible macro blocks, yikes!
