Quick question about editing with the Canon 60d and Final Cut Pro X. Please Help!

Long story short, just purchased a canon 60d. As it turns out both Final Cut Pro 6 (studio 2), as well as my current operating system are NOT compatible with the newest Canon EOS plug in. So... What I'm wondering is, would Final Cut Pro X work with the latest EOS plug in? Is it even necessary to use, or has the newest version of Final Cut made it so that we don't have to use plug in's? This is a nightmare, to make things worse, I may need to just purchase a new comp all together! I'm currently working with a Mac Pro dual core 2.66 ghz with 5 gigs of DDR2 ram and OS X 10.5.8 I believe it was. Honestly, I'm a newb and I would GREATLY appreciate ANY advice from those who know more then myself. Thank you so much.

P.S. Has Apple abandoned the professional editors with Final Cut X, or will there be upgrades? Thoughts?

No Apple hasn't abandoned any editor. But they EOLed Final Cut as it existed.

You don't need the Canon plugin, FCPX has it built in. You can either edit native or you transcode to ProRes, which i recommend.

Yep- DSLR cameras like the 60D work fine with FCP X. I'm using it on a late 2010 model MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM and it's pretty solid with 60D, T3i, GH2 etc.

If it helps... I just cut this using FCP X on a 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.7.1
First time using 60D and FCP X. I absolutely love both.
