Quick question about Canon FD lens vs. Kit lens

Would a Canon FD 24mm 'super wide' lens be wider than the 14mm end of the GH1's kit lens?

Is the only real benefit of buying a wide lens separately from the kit one to get that extra speed?
 
Is 24 bigger than 14?

It's probably easier to pull focus on the manual lenses. Fly-by-wire focusing is something I haven't quite gotten the hang of it yet, even for stills.
 
Right, but I am not to keen on the subjects of lens cropping, and optical skew. I have heard things like the GH1 increases the length of some lenses, not sure if that effects the kit lens.

I just wanted to make sure before making purchases!
 
Focal length is focal length, it's a constant. What changes when sensor / negative size changes is field of view. So on GH1 24-28mm gives a FOV that's considered in 135mm still photography circles a 'normal'.
