Hi,
I recently bought a HVX200A and I'm about to start covering red carpet events and this weekend I'm covering 3 events where I will be shooting BRoll behind photographers on the red carpet. I will shooting HD on P2 card where celebrities will walk and pose on the red carpet while photoqs take their pics, I will be doing handheld, doing pans, fashion shots, close ups, medium shots, wides shots, etc This footage will be used for TV broadcast for entertainment news stories and also they might slow down footage to reveal better fashion shots e.g. when shooting from down and up a dress from a celebrity. When shooting, there will be tons of flashes on celebrities. I have a 64Gig P2 card older series.

My question is:

What should I use for this event for better results in quality, movement, and flash strobes?

1. 1080i 60i
2. 720p 60p
3. 720pn 30p (Native)

If someone shot events like this and can give me some tips, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Manuel

Flash strobes don't matter, you're using a CCD camera so they're a non-issue.

I would use 720/60p mode, but it really depends on what your client asks for. If they want to slow it down, 60p will be the cleanest for that.

I wouldn't use 30pN unless they specifically asked for it -- news shows don't usually feature the stuttery look of 30p or 24p.

They just told me to shoot the highest HD quality and I really want to shoot the cleanest so I think I will do 720P 60P

Thank you for your help

Manuel

I would shoot 1080 60i - this lends its self well to Broadcast (fields) and SD-DVD's and it's slightly higher in quality. JMO

One last question:

I shot 720p 60p and footage looks great and clean. Now for my editing project settings:

960x720
1.333

or

1280x720
1.000

I read that HVX200A 720p60p is 960x720 I thought it was 1280x720
I just want to make sure my settings are right. My delivery is HD MP4
If it is 960x720 and If I need to export it as 1280x720 file, will the file lose quality? will it be notorious?

Thanks!

Editing on FCP? Drop a clip into a new/emty sequence and FCP will set the settings correctly for you.
When the edit is done, export using "current settings" and then take that file into a compression program to create your deliverable.

I agree with Manuel and Barry. If someone brought something in 720/60p into my major market station as stringer video I would talk much crap on him unless the intended output was supposed to be slowed down. Frankly, that's a pretty thin likelihood.

It's going to depend on the specific station/network. 1080i60 may be the requirement at one but may not be the norm at another.

ABC or FOX -- 720p, CBS and NBC -- 1080i.

We lay off our 720p show masters to 1080i for those stations that require it and it looks fantastic.

From our experience, laying off from 720p to 1080i has never been a problem. Still looked great. But de-interlaced 1080i going to 720p has not always been a pretty affair.

I'm with Barry on 720p60.
