Quick masking question

How can I animate the Mask points? I can't remember but I think I was once told they couldn't be animated and instead I might have to do frame by frame...

Trying to cut out the eyes of a profile CU where the talent turns towards camera with her whole body. I want to tweak the eyes separately... just a bit to make them pop.

No, they can be keyframed in the timeline at the bottom of the pan/crop tool. Now, you may have to do each keyframe frame-by-frame.

Yea... well that sux, but thanks David for the quick answer. I guess for that sort of control I would have to use After Effects right?

No. You're talking about irregular shapes which change in every frame. There's no software which can do it automatically.

Yea, but if I could finally figure out how to drag points and get better at shaping the curvature to the lines with the little arms sticking out of the points (sorry I can't remember the names)... then I would be able to move a million times faster instead of having to delete all and start over again for each frame...

...I dunno why I haven't been able to figure out something that should be so simple. Maybe I have some sort of block for this part of the interface. :)

OH! I got it!!

It was just the Snapping that was engaged!! My points kept jumping around like crazy...

Now all I am missing is to get used to the curving of the lines.

NO!!! I already spaced out and forgot what the heck I was holding down to dragg the points!!! AHGGHHH!!! lol... laughing at myself a bit for that.

I could really use a little guide.

OK... so I think I figured out how to move, the points, hoe to do the curves. It wasn't about holding a key but about how you clicked onto them.

I do have one problem left to figure out though... I get a fine dark line between the layers where the cut is... and feathering doesn't help but instead makes it more visible... ??

It's because you've applied effects and then did the mask after. You can one of two things -- you can go in the FX editor and click on the little triangles next to the effect names (by the timeline), or you can remove the FX and re-apply them.

No, you don't have to delete and start all over again -- you just need to move the points -- but you figured that out, right?
