Quick D600/610 schooling for GH shooter

the GH2 was my first foray into "DSLR" video. I've also shot on various rented/borrowed Canon DSLR's, but not so much Nikon. I've always preferred the Nikon look to Canon, and happen to own a mess of Nikon-compatible glass.

Looking to get into full-frame and the forthcoming D610 looks attractive, and maybe slightly more video-optimized than the '600/800. I usually shoot my GH2 very bare-bones, through the viewfinder, no EVF's or monitors or recorders of follow foci or assorted faff. This in mind, are there any pitfalls or necessories to shooting with the 600/610?

Where are you reading about improved video functionality? Thanks

D610 is basically a D600 with a repaired shutter, .5 extra FPS, and apparent new white balance algorithm. Have not read anything that indicates its video capability is any different from the D600. Of course, the D600 will be worth nothing soon... could be a good time to pick one up :D

You'll be using live view (LCD) to shoot video on a Nikon....

If you want the “best” Nikon of video you may need to stay with the cropped cameras like the D7100.

I had a D600 but dropped it for the D800. If you want to go full frame Nikon for video, I would look at the D800 because to my eyes it is equal to the D600 if not in fact better due to slightly less moiré plus you have aperture control in live view. Also the 600 and the 610 are the same camera image-wise... Less the spots that is.

I thought I read about the 610 allowing aperture changes in live view and yielding full screen hdmi output... Maybe not?

It should have full 1920 x 1080 HDMI out. The 600 has that if you updated the firmware. No aperture control in live view however.

yeah i have heard nothing about live view aperture changes on the 610. The big problem we all have that they addressed as the oil spots on the sensor. Looks like they repleaced the shutter mechanism to fix this, thus giving you the extra .5 fps as a nice little bonus. Given the choice to buy again i would ignore the 610 and get the 600 for dirt cheap in about a months time and buy a sensor cleaning kit as well. I have both had mine professionally cleaned and done it myself with basically the exact same results.
