Surprisingly this is absolutely true. I used the F356 with the Odyssey, Codex and SRW-1 and in many ways the SRW-1 was my favorite. It supports everything the camera can offer and allows to the F35 be a fully functioning camera. The F35 is limited without a recorder docked and while the Codex can dock with it there is very limited communication between both units, you cant view recordings from the Codex in the VF for example. When I decided to try going with the F35 and SRW-1 I was worried about how heavy it would be, which it is, but with the SRW-1 docked the balance of the system is soo much better and I actually found the system felt lighter and easier to manage. With the Odyssey and even the Codex the F35 is very front heavy putting the load on your arms which tires you out quickly, the SRW-1 balances the weigh over the shoulder and I found it far more comfortable and easier to manange.
Well said. Some would argue that the 12 bit is better I just don’t think so is all.
The Extra weight of the srw really makes movement so much more dynamic, same with hand held it feels massive when I move it around and see the footage played back. External recording is fine if you don’t complain about it, I just had to many experiences where things go left, like I forget to hit record sometimes. Also when I shoot on hdcam-sr I pay very close attention to the shots at hand (granted you should be doing this anyway) but it reminds me of film in a way where I can’t record over it. I got 40 mins which determines my shooting ratios. I hit record and I’m damn serious to get it right. Then I have to wait for this thing to transfer, I even have to store the tapes in a certain environment. Man I just love it all.
