F5: Questions on a New F5 package

I'm currently getting price quotes on a new F5 package, I will most likely buy the F5 kick-starter kit with the OLED viewfinder and sell off the Canon Optitek adaptor, battery and charger that come with the package.

Extras in this new package include the Nikon Optitek adapter, I read all good things about the adapter on this forum.

Switronix V-mount with 2 taps to adapt my Anton Bauer batteries, are there any advantages to the Switronix vs the Anton BauerQRC-4K-S Battery Mounting Plate besides price?

Vocas Base Plate, the sales person has recommended this base plate over the others because of a better balance option.

Arri Top Plate.

Arri Viewfinder adapter

Arri Camera handle

Arri Viewfinder plug protection.

Two ProCards, haven't decided to go with 2 64GB cards or 1 64GB and 1 128GB cards.

The last package I purchased from the same vendor was my F3 (which I will be selling soon) I bought the MM1B Arri matt-box and follow focus with this package. I still own these items and have never been happy with the follow focus unit, (lots of play and sticky parts.)

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

First off congrats.

Regarding the batteries, any taps might seem appealing but the F5 does have two power out ports (hirose) to power anything* external and BH sells a nice cable with DC male plug which can be used for external monitor, etc.. or modified to power other accessories. Get the batteries with the highest voltage because I've heard and personally seen F5/F55 hang/crash when voltage levels drop or get low. Folks tried blaming the camera but none were using the Sony olivines.

Regarding the cards I've moved over from the regular sxs cards to the newly released Sony XQD 180mb/s cards for 1/3rd the price of the pro plus cards. On the F55 I've tested 4k and simultaneous HD proxy. The Sony SXS adapter is $32. The card reader is $30.

Kits are great but also try pricing out only the pieces you need. You could get a deal that way, for example I paid the price of the LCD for the OLED.

*EDIT: limited to 2 amps according to spec. if I'm not mistaken.

Just remember the Sony Hirose ports won't power everything.

A Preston MDR is one of those things it won't power, not enough amperage.

I bought a Solid Camera Scatterbox for those situations.

Thanks, regarding batteries, the Olivines are 7.5 AH, I'm using the AB HC and HCX which are 10AH, is the hang on the camera happening because of a communication error between battery and camera?

The XQD cards are 180MB/s or about 1.4Gb/s the Sony Pro Plus are a little higher, will the XQD card be fast enough to cover all codecs in the F5?

In a sentence or two what is it like working with the AXSM RAW files, I edit with Media Composer?

Sorry the last question is a bit off putting, I'm considering adding the AXSM recorder to the purchase for 4K and 240FPS function but need to know just what is it like hard easy working with Sony RAW.

Thanks

Pin-pointing the exact issue of the hangs/freezes are hard given so much information and details are often left out when users post it. Over half of issues are caused simply because users do not perform a mandatory "ALL RESET" after upgrading the camera.

Me personally, I rented some PAG batteries and noticed the voltage seemed lower than IDX Brand I own and with the PAG's my camera hung 2-3 times on a full shooting day requiring the battery to be pulled. With my IDX batteries this has never happened. I only noticed the voltage difference, but perhaps it could be anything.

The highest bitrate that the F5 will be able to shoot is with the December firmware, when it will be able to do 180fps S&Q mode. Which is 600mb/s. All other codecs are less than that ie. SR Codec, Mpeg, XAVC...

It should work fine. You can also pickup some 168mb/s for less if you can find any, they have been tested by many and reports show they do work pretty good.

Thanks, the dealer had close to $4K in Pro Plus card cost on his estimate, I read that the 168MB/s cards give you an no guarantee warning on the F5/55 cameras. I think I go with the 180MB/s cards and use the rest of the money towards the AXSM recorder.

HI know you are looking at the F5 but I can confirm 100% no media guarantee warning using 180/mbs on F55 in 4k XAVC even with simultaneous HD proxy turned on.
