Hey, I just got an ag-hvx 200, and I'm considering getting a mac book. I only have 1,400 left and I'm wondering if it'll be a good purchase. Does anyone know if I'll be able to capture straight to my Hard Drive through FCP 5? Also, I've heard some poblems resulting from FCP5 and the GPU, has anyone else? Let me know if this would be a good buy.

It would be a great buy, and you will be able to capture 1080 fine in FCP 5.1, though i would highly recommend getting a Macbook PRO. IF you are around a Fry's and can get a few hundred extra, a 1.83ghz with x1600 gpu (the Macbook regular does NOT come with a GPU at all) for 1799 right now on sale.

But if you are fine with just investing for the short term in the Macbook , its a great purchase

Keep in mind that if you do buy any version of the Mac Book, there's no way that $1,400 will get you both the laptop and a copy of FCP...

Keep in mind that anything less than a 17" screen will be a PITA to edit on. And the MacBook Pros smaller than 17" are NOT rated to run Final Cut Suite. This is due to the graphics cards in them not supporting Motion very well. That equals less RT and performance with the lower end graphics cards.
