questions for nex 7/5/5n/5r/c3 shooters

i am SERIOUSLY thinking about buying the nex 5n as an upgrade from a point & shoot "walk around camera" that can do double duty as a b cam with my fs100.

to those who have shot motion with the nex c3/5n/5r/6/7, i have several questions:

do you usually shoot 24p or 60p?

in movie/video mode:

are there any focus aids?

peaking?

expanded focus?

live histogram?

does your nex overheat?

if so, how long before it overheats? how long until it cools and can be used?

do you use an adapter allowing other lenses and mounts?

if so, does metering work with your non e-mount lens?

is there any form of focus confirmation with your non e-mount lens?

do you have any favorite movie lenses? (e-mount & non-e-mount)

do you employ an external mic with your rig?

are the audio level controls effective?

are there any picture profiles ala the fs100?

have you been able to successfully colorgrade the fs100 and nex footage?

what do you do with the mts file?

transcode via clip wrap to pro res lt?

would you purchase your nex c3/5/5n/5r/6/7 again?

i know the above seems a bit overwhelming.

any and all info you care to share is appreciated.

be well.

24p

in movie/video mode:

are there any focus aids?
yes

peaking?
yes, and it works better than most implementations

expanded focus?
yes, but not while recording

live histogram?
yes, and it's what you HAVE to use for stting exposure (screen is not accurate)

does your nex overheat?
yes, and pretty fast

if so, how long before it overheats? how long until it cools and can be used?
I'd say maximum 4 minutes. But unlike the canons, it can be on standby as long as you need, it's the takes that are restricted to this short length. For me, this is perfect. It will be a nightmare for others.

do you use an adapter allowing other lenses and mounts?
yes, several of them. my favorites are the ones sold by szkacha on ebay. the nikon-to-nex one I just received is incredibly tight (maybe too much so, it takes some force to release the lens; but it doesn't wiggle AT ALL). Others not so great, but still above average (e.g. usually much above a non-pro fotodiox)

if so, does metering work with your non e-mount lens?
yes, without issues

is there any form of focus confirmation with your non e-mount lens?
no. but my lenses are not chipped, so I didn't expect it.

do you have any favorite movie lenses? (e-mount & non-e-mount)
e-mount: sigma 19mm and 30mm (sharp, small and cheap)
non-e-mount: vintage leitz for leica-R mount (really amazing glass)

do you employ an external mic with your rig?
yes, external mic and recorder; the camera sound is horrible

are the audio level controls effective?
don't even think about recording sound with the 5n

are there any picture profiles ala the fs100?
this is the best I've got

have you been able to successfully colorgrade the fs100 and nex footage?
I don't have an fs100

what do you do with the mts file?
load into the editor, they work just great

transcode via clip wrap to pro res lt?
you can load them directly to CS5 or newer, and that's the best way to work with them

would you purchase your nex c3/5/5n/5r/6/7 again?
definitely: nothing else in this price bracket that can compete with the 5N (ok, maybe the GH2, but I subjectively don't like that one)

Samuel covers it well, I have a 5n and love it. Here are answers that are different I my experience.

does your nex overheat?
Not often

if so, how long before it overheats? how long until it cools and can be used?
I can usually record 25-30 minutes straight with no worries,,I don't know if I get lucky, or the fact I'm always full manual with adapted dumb glass.

do you use an adapter allowing other lenses and mounts?
yes, several of them. my favorites are the fotodiox for my Minolta and M42 lenses, and the metabones for canon.

is there any form of focus confirmation with your non e-mount lens?
With metabones canon adapter yes, but not with the others.

do you have any favorite movie lenses? (e-mount & non-e-mount)
e-mount: sigma 19mm and 30mm (sharp, small and cheap)
non-e-mount: vintage m42 takumars and mamiya/sekors, I also have some Minoltas I really like.

have you been able to successfully colorgrade the fs100 and nex footage?
Yes, I shoot the 5n as a B cam with the fs100 and 700 with no problem, in fact, after grading you are hard pressed to spot the difference.

would you purchase your nex c3/5/5n/5r/6/7 again?
5n, yes, and I'm looking at the 7 now as well

I'm looking at the Sony NEX 6. Is the sensor the same as 5N? 5N has 1600 ISO limit, does the NEX 6 have the same iso limit or is it higher? I heard NEX footage is not very gradeable.
