GH2 Questions about locking exposure on the GH2

Does exposure need to be manually locked before shooting video on the GH2? What I mean is if, for example, someone walks close to the camera in the shot and, (if the exposure is not locked down on a camera), there may be variance in the foreground and/or background lighting as the subject and/or angle moves.

(I use 24p/M exposure mode.) Does the wheel for both the aperture and shutter speed need to be clicked to lock in these settings/lock the exposure each time a change is made to the settings?
Maybe a better example: what if you powered the GH2 on and there were already aperture/shutter settings there and you just start filming: are the shutter + aperture (exposure) now locked or does each one need a wheel click as a confirmation (or something else)?

There is also an AF/AE button: does this need to be pressed to lock exposure or is that if you just want it done auto? Or mainly for stills?

I'm not seeing any of that stray lighting changes I described in the beginning of this post, but want to make sure about this as it's not clear to me by reading the manual.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the replies...

So, are any button confirmations required before shooting; AE button/wheel clicks or can you just shoot with whatever aperture/shutter settings are there and the exposure variances won't be an issue?

If in full manual mode, with aperture, shutter, and ISO set, all you do from there is compose, focus, and begin recording. Exposure is "locked" as you set it. Now manual needs to be selected in the "Motion Picture" menu, select EXPOSURE MODE, then select "M" from the "PASM" choices.

Thanks again for your reply. I do understand what you have said, but need to clarify further what I am asking.

In the past I have used, for example, Canon cameras where before shooting video, a physical confirmation of a button or combination of buttons has to be performed every time to lock exposure. Once you have clicked it (or those) button(s), there will be some sort of icon indication on the screen that "exposure is locked".

I am not seeing any indicator on the GH2 showing that. I understand what you're saying, (including about the "M" within Motion Picture mode), you make the settings and exposure is then locked. The thing is, there are many times where I will power off the GH2 to save the battery. When I turn it back on, those original aperture, shutter and ISO settings are still there.

So, if those settings are already what I want, do I still have to tell the GH2 to lock exposure by going back and forth again with the wheel clicks between shutter and aperture? (With other camera I would have to tell the camera to again lock exposure.)

Furthermore, what if I power the GH2 back on and say, for example, the shutter speed is already what I want, but want to change only the aperture. Do I set the aperture with the wheel click, but then also have to click the shutter to confirm total exposure (even though it's already at the right number)?

Even without powering the GH2 back on, is some physical confirmation of buttons needed between video takes to confirm locking of exposure every time?

I ask these things, because I actually have been going back and forth between the two and clicking them every time, regardless of the situation, but I may being doing this redundantly if these are unnecessary steps to lock the exposure.

There is no indicator of "locked" exposure on the GH2. Not needed.

No.

You've been making unnecessary work for yourself. Oh and give making changes a try using the touchscreen Q.MENU. No clicking and pushing the wheel. Slick as can be.

And Jim's answer was sure a lot shorter than mine.

Yes, thanks for going through all my points. So, no icons needed for exposure lock confirmation.
That's great, I didn't realize I can use the Q-menu/touchscreen for making those adjustments.

Thanks again for the help.
