I've been thinking about how it would be interesting to film and or photograph the sun. With the 14-140 and ETC mode giving an equivalent focal length of around 600mm I figure you could get a pretty good shot. My question is, will I damage my camera? I was thinking about a timelapse, and maybe also just a regular 24p video. Has anybody done this before? Also, I was wondering if it would be possible to shoot a timelapse of the sky during the day that would show the stars. Maybe using HDR?

Yes it can damage the camera. If you want to shoot the sun itself as opposed to a scene with the sun in it, you need sun filter.

I damaged two digital cameras shooting time-lapse sun shots. I once posted an example frame somewhere on DVX, I believe. If i find it, i'll link.
The first time I thought it was simply a faulty brand. It was always my belief that CCDs could not burn in but merely registered 100% on their detectors. The second damaged camera has made me even a bit gun shy on sunsets.
