For those that got the beta- how does it work so far? Can it work with 720P24PN and/or variable frame rates?
Also, for those that have exerience with CineForm/Aspect HD for uses besides the HVX- are you happy? How does it work for you?

Most importantly- how long does it take to convert footage from an HVX? Faster than real time? What are your computer's specs?

Thanks!

To the beta users, I'm happy to have you respond here.

As for the question above:
Can it work with 720P24PN and/or variable frame rates?

Yes. You can even further manipulate the frame rates during converison (shoot 60 to 24, but you want to play at 25, no problem.)

For 720p24/25/30 material any PC that meets Aspect's HD minimum (3GHz P4) is faster than real-time around 1.4X. For dual core expect 2X or better. On our quad core (dual Opteron 280 system) conversion were 4-5X; it was damn fast. For 1080i60 the speed is about half that of the modes 720p modes.

I think CineForm and the HVX200 have nothing to do with each other, unless you want to degrade your DVCPRO-HD footage.

Ben,

I understand that opinion, but it doesn't apply to professional workflows that use more than one render stage. Projects that use effects/compositing greatly need an intermediate, more traditional uncompressed intermediates are used, but we offer a range codecs that delivery uncompressed like quality without the disk issues, and offer a large performance gain. Plus as DVCPRO-HD is not a practical delivery format (for most of us that can't afford a Panasonic deck with a firewire I/O module) working in DVCPRO-HD will cramp your production, literally, due to the 960x720 or 1280x1080 image format. If you an HD-SDI card, it has to scale the image up on export. We recommend bumping the image up to 1280x720 or 1920x1080 (Prospect HD) before you do any editing work. That way when you master out, all the new elements can easily benefit from the full luma and chroma HD resolution (titles, composits etc.) DVCPRO-HD is a excellent aquistion format, but is it was don't designed for post, so there is room for alternative solutions like Avid DNxHD, Canopus HQ and CineForm Intermediate (all three acknownledge that post production is different than acquistion, so codec can be optimized for post.)

We believe HVX200 and CineForm are a very compatible fit, perfect for anything from corporate productions to indie film.

I'll play with it tomorrow night. Been shooting SD training film this weekend. I'll bring my camera to work and capture some stuff and slam it into Premiere with Cineform.
I'm looking forward to seeing how well it works.
