Questions about 50p Recording

I know there is some talk of recording 50p out of the F35 in the main "Just Got a New Camera Thread", but I can't get the search feature to find 50p.

1: Does the camera only output 50p? I'm seeing 59.94 and 60 in the menu, but no one ever mentions them...
2: Does the camera output 50p (or 60p if possible) out a single SDI cable on the IF box if I'm shooting 4:2:2, or do I need to go dual-link with the higher frame rate?
3: Can the camera output pre-slowed down footage (ie: capturing 50/60p at the sensor, but outputting a 24p stream @ 50/40%)?
4: When looking at formats in the camera menus, what is the difference between a framerate that starts with S verses one that starts with _ (ie:"S23.98 422" and "_23.98 422")?

Thanks!

1. 50P is the max framerate for the F35. It will do 59.94 and 60 interlaced, not progressive. The F23 did 60P.
2. I believe you need dual link. At least the maths in my head tells me you do.
3. Sadly, no. If you record with something like the SRW-1 deck that interprets the footage as 25P, most other recorders seem not to.
4. S stands for Select and lets you choose any frame rate up to that value (handy if ramping), otherwise _ just locks it at that frame rate.

Thanks for the help. Dual Link/3G would explain why none of the cheaper recorders seem to handle 50p. So at minimum (for 422 50p) I'm looking at an Odyssey 7 with a dual link setup. Is there a setting to enable dual link or does it just automatically work once the camera is set to the higher framerate?

It will just happen automatically.

For what its worth on the latest firmware if you choose a single-link format the camera will just output the same signal on A and B of the box, previously it would only do one.

My understanding regarding 50p/60p on the F35 is that 50p is the highest acquisition frame rate. However, the camera appears to be able to produce a 60p (59.94?) output signal. I think to do that it cheats and adds repeated frames - a solution for monitoring, but not recording. Or so I recall.

One recorder that is often overlooked is the Sony SR-R1, which is capable of the 50p recording as well as 12bit RGB 4:4:4 recording for 23.98, and 29.97.

Yes, it's dual link - won't run single link or 3G for 4:4:4 or 50p 4:2:2.

Unless you have the SRW-1 or a Codex or OB-1, the Select FPS is pretty useless, as only those few recorders supported the ramping or select FPS to my knowledge.

Finally, be careful with 50p if you're shooting in a 60hz region of the world - under some lighting sources you will get significant flicker. Careful shutter settings may alleiviate this, but be on the lookout for flicker.

i did a test and recorded the 59.94P feed from the F35 to the 7Q, and you right, 10 frame holds per second.
