Question: Who is my audience

Hey all,

I shot the short film "Manifest Breakfast" In Jan of 09 with a pair of HVX200's with RedRock m2 kits. I finally got around to finishing the edit and I've been sitting on it for about 6 months trying to figure out what to do with it. The two big questions are....

1) Do i make it open to the public and try and promote it online? Or do I try to commit to a festival circuit strategy?

2) If a web strategy is the way to go. I'm not really even sure how to promote this short online. Who watches short films? Meaning I dont have a clue who my target market is or where they exist on the web.....how can i get this short to the people who WANT to see it?

I'd really like to hear any an all opinions. Any advice is really appreciated and taken into consideration. You can use the link and password below to the view the film.

Cheers

It reminds me of the old David Lynch films. All you're missing is Laura Dern. LOL. I'm assuming the insanity is all in his head. Maybe some guilt going on? Maybe fear? Mind racing between real and what may or could be actually happening. I don't know what your specific audience would be for this. I would like to see more of it though. Like what really went on. Did a heist go bad or something? Could this be an artsy "heist gone bad movie?"

Sorry no one seems able to help you on this. It really was an interesting piece. This section isn't what it used to be. Someone will help you eventually. It's hard for me to help because it's a short and I know nothing about shorts. If it were a feature I could be a lot more helpful.

No worries Nathyn, I appreciate you taking a look regardless....glad you liked it, to answer your question. Yes it is a heist gone wrong. I wanted to do some actual bank robbery scenes, but my budget of $1000 wouldn't allow it. All together its not the greatest piece but for my first attempt i'm pleased, learned a whole lot and ready to move to the next project!

havent watched the short, but here are two options to monetize (which is near impossible with a short). Audiences just don't like paying for them. That being said...

Shorts International can put short films in places others can't. They have some exclusive distribution deals. http://www.shortsinternational.com

IndieFlix, if they like it, can place the short on Hulu, Amazon VOD, etc. http://www.indieflix.com

And I'm sure you're realizing this now, but it's incredibly advantageous to identify the audience before you make the film. It's a lesson I learned the hard way with a feature.

I'm not really interested in making money off this thing...just wondering whats my best option to get it seen by the people who actually want to see it
