Question to non-Panasonic tape users

Are there any sucessful cases of DVX Users that used non Panasonic wet lube tapes and lived more than 50 hours without any problems? The reason for that is that I have not found anyone selling MQ tapes in Brazil,, and I need to know because I will not import all my tapes unless it's absolutely necessary. Here we don't have the options you have over there. In fact the only pro media supplyer I know of only works with Sony Premium. Incredible, isn't it?

Thanks!

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

I have been using Sony DVM60 all the while with no problem at all.

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

You've not had any problems eh?

I dunno, I'd stay away from Sony just because it's wet lube...I wouldn't say it's worth the risk :-/

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

If you never mix wet lube with dry, you're all set. I think sticking with sony is okay if you never use anything else. Not sure, though...I'd still go with panasonic if at all possible.

I'm very lucky, though....a store one street away from me--maybe 4 miles away--sells DVM63PQs for 3.90 per tape! I just bought 20 the other day...no shipping charges either since it's in store! The MQs may be better, but I've seen no difference in performance. Just as long as you don't record over anything, the PQs are great. (National Geographic uses them, I believe!)

Sorry about going off on a tangent.

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

Perhaps I could find some Fujis...

Wich Fuji model would be the one?

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

With regard to which tapes to use that's very subjective. I've been using the AY-DVM63MQ's since they first came out. I use them in all of my cameras without incident. For my Masters, I use Sony PDV-184N's.

My only caution would be to stick with just one brand of tape. If you're going to be changing tapes, be sure to clean your heads and rollers.

My reply to another post that talked about buying and using "cheap" tapes is really quite simple. Let me see if I understand the post. You purchase a $225,000 sports car and then you try to find the cheapest oil and gas? That makes sense.

Sorry about the pun, but in all honesty, always try to remember that tape is the cheapest part of our entire budget. There really is a difference between good tapes and cheaper tapes in the way they respond and hold or lose information. I'm not about to risk an entire job just to save a few bucks.

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

when my camera was a virgin I introduced it to Fuji pro DVcam tapes and used them for about 30 hours, no problems no dropouts. Had a nice book case but they cost $16 a piece so I switched over to MQ's. So now I feel a little lucky im only spending 5 bucks a tape, for an hour its quite the deal, my cameras basically working for minimum wage :)
your paying 10 cents a minute using the MQ's, so there is not an excuse not to use them. Its not only that they dont have less dropouts, but they are better on your camera.

That said, say your camera will last 500 hours till the heads need to be replaced if you use crappy tapes, if your saving $2 an hour that will be enough to buy some new heads.

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

I use Sony Premium tapes exclusively and have had no problems. I doubt seriously that I will have any issues down the road. I think the whole idea of wet/dry tapes and their possible "destruction" of the heads is grossly overrated. 8)
Just my 2 cents. The Sony tapes have worked for me (and many others I know) for years. If it ain't broke...don't fix it.

Re: Question to non-Panasonic tape users

never mind...just did another search and found that "MQ's", "PQ'S" and "FUJI" are all dry...but feel free to lmk if that's incorrect!
