GH2 Question regarding GH2 LCD and Color Profiles

I ran some tests today and noticed before I press the record button the video on the LCD appears to be what my normal eyes currently sees, but when I press record the video on the LCD goes a little bit darker? I have the setting on 2 for lcd.

Also I am using the Smooth profile at -2, -2, -1, 0 & noticed that the blacks are more crushed than normal? Is there any color profile that will give me just a plain neutral image? I do not want blacks more crushed or colors brighter, just a simple neutral setting that can allow me to grade the footage how I want.

Thanks for the help in advance.

A couple of frame grabs

Tech Specs
------------

1080p video 24H (Sanity 5 Hack)
Iso was 320-640
Lens Used Panasonic 12-35mm at f/2.8 (Amazing sharp lens, would use for establish shots and locations, not so much on people though)
Smooth Color Profile -2, -2, -1, 0
Video was shot around 7:45Pm

What I noticed from this quick test is the cons of the GH2 when compared to Canon Dslrs are, it has more noise, requires more light and also I still can't get my Canon colors I love yet.

The pluses I noticed are, amazing detail and quality. Shooting a scene like this on my Canon Dslr no way in the world would I have seen such nice sharp edges of the bridge. Truly impressed with the Image quality.

What I need to somehow fix though is I do not like how my blacks are crushed and like I mentioned in my first post why the video on the lcd screen changes when I start recording? Overall I would say this appears to be a great camera, just need to personalized it a bit better.

I think this is a known issue with the LCD. I have personally witnessed a color/exposure shift when pressing record. Doesn't effect actual recorded video though.

Ok, so is the actual image being recorded the one before I press record or after? Also any reason why this issue even exist? Just want to be prepared for this
thank you

It's the image you get after, which while it has a gamma-shift holds more detail.

There's a reason for the color shift in Live View mode on the GH2. While you're framing the shot, the GH2 is running in a special 120fps mode that speeds up auto-focus in AFC and AFS modes. When you start recording a video, the GH2 switches to the frame rate you've selected, and that changes the scanning mode of the image sensor. If you look closely at the viewfinder, you'll see that the resolution in 120fps mode is rather soft, and it improves noticeably when you hit the shutter button.

Thank you for the explanation, Doesn't make sense to me but I understand

how are you liking the sanity hack?

I don't have anything else to compare it to, since I am a new user to GH2 and have only applied to this hack and flow Motion. I like it better than Flow Motion, as it FM was really not that stable. Also FM took up to much space on my memory cards and had problems between switching from 24H and SH. Furthermore Flow Motion while looked good is not 100% stable and it does not run on every SDHC card out there. As of now I really like Sanity 5 hack better. Not that the image quality us better it's just that it's perfect stable, runs on most if not every SDHC class 10 card and also gives me 40+ minutes on 16gb cards and over double than on 32gb. For what I do (Music Videos, Short Documentaries) this works best.

The creator od Sanity 5 figured out a way to keep the MBps low but still get high/nice quality that are in the 60MBps range. Not as high as Flow motion or Driftwood, but it is a lot better than stock Panasonic firmware and better quality than Canon Dslrs. I'm happy and don't see myself switching. Now if I'm doing a Major project and have help then I might go for one of the 150+ hacks, but as of now stability is more important to me & I'm happy. Download it and try it, I really like Sanity 5 Hack.
