Question regarding 2 K

When speaking about 720 and 1080, we are referring to the number of lines in the vertical display resolution. Thus:

1280 x 720

1920 x 1080

But when we speak of the 2k camera, we are referring to the horizontal display resolution?

Correct?

Although from what I have heard 2k is a tad better than 1920x1080 pixel-wise
