Question on 24P

Hey everyone,

This is my first post sooo be gentle. I just got the 100a and I am shooting a video that will be a commerical on TV. What are the best "settings" to use for this? The location will be a little dark. We do have lights but when I tested the 24p setting it just looks a little dark. I also want to know if its possible to attach the camera to some sort of monitor so other can see the footage being filmed. I know it has an S video out and the red, yellow and white av hook ups but do I need to activate that to have it go out from the camera to an exrternal monitor...THANK you guys so much for the help. Aj

1) The best way to brighten the image is add more light or open the iris more if you can. You can also lower the shutter speed or add gain, but those will change your image in ways you may not want.

2) You don't have to do anything; just connect through S-Video or composite.

If you use the S-Video or yellow composite connection, you must know that the 0 IRE setup (that is what you should use for recording to mini-DV) will look dark on an external monitor (in the blacks).

You can try to set the setup to 7.5 IRE for monitoring, but don't forget to put it back to 0 IRE before shooting.

You can also set the auto iris level in the scene file a little bit higher.

Or use manual iris.

question: how do u view through a monitor on set without hooking the camera up to the monitor. I;d like to at some point have a monitor so peope can see wats being fiilmed but dont want to be tethered to a monitor when i'm shooting. i see on sets and bts with dierctors or whoever watching monitors without hooking up to cam how is that done?

RF.
usually.
if it's truly wireless.

lots of choices for vid taps and delivery of the signal to other viewing stations.
you'd be surprised how sophisticated that is now-a-days.

Are you 100% about this? Any analog output should be adding the setup. Digital SETUP is 0 and if you set it to 7.5, you'll be changing what goes to tape, adding artifically raised blacks.

wireless setups are generally very expensive. if you want, you could look into a microwave link system which is a long range wireless solution. but i would recommend staying wired to the monitor with a composite video cord (yellow) unless you have a big budget. i am sure that there is shot range wirless transmitters but i dont know any off the top of my head. do a little googling
