question for PAM on HPM 110

So with this HPM 110, can go HDSDI out of either my Varicam or HPX500 and get true 1080p 24p ?

The varicams are great cameras and I hate to see it become useless. I'd much rather buy a device that can make it compete with newer cameras. But I don't want to spend that much money without knowing for sure what it can and more importantly CAN'T do for me.

thanks

OOPS, I ment Jan, not Pam

My biggest concerns are like when I thought, from advertizing, the HPX500 would do 1080p and slow mo, only to discover it DIDN'T after buying it.

what similar things CAN'T this device do when using it with the HPX500 or Varicam?

can I get slow-mo and ramping in 1080p full raster?

most you can go w/ varicam is 720p i believe unless we're talking about the hpx2700 & hpx3700. even then, HPX500/Varicam's DVCProHD 720 = 960x720. when recording w/ HPM110, you get 1280x720 AVC-Intra. This is only w/ VFR though, aside from that, just from VFR on your 500, just go 1080p out to hpm110 and you get 1920x1080.

Varicam F or H and 110 are made for each other!!!!

Varicam F or H and 110 are made for each other!!!!

I bought my 110 for my Varicam F from Abel this August...

Its like I have a new camera...!

The definition of the image, the keying in the green screens, the shadows got another stop of effective latitude, the mid tones are so rich even with DL@500...

its amazing... there is nothing that you wont like about it... Is my most bullet proof investment that I did until today... VFR has instant playback, directors and producers are smiling...

Is my secret weapon against RED's due to the fast post turn around and the 10bit advantage against F900R... I just add my relay for Brevis and I have 35 Dof and astonishing latitude...

And if ever there will be a new Varicam with 35mm sensor or a RED EPIC with 1080p output or something else, the 110 will be my mastering-recorder/field-player...!

Simply the best Panasonic product this year! Its a real best buy... and it gets really close to HDCAM-SR in 4:2:2 mode! you can claim it as D5-HD class... they are comperable...

The 110 is a great product. It will absolutely record in 1080p at 23.98 fps. However you do need the AVC-Intra board to make this work. The HPM110 will remove the pull down on the output of your HPX500 and record natively.

If you don't have the board installed you'll be able to record in DVCPRO HD 1080i/24P - 24p pulled down over 60i. This would just the same as the camera recording it. Really though you want the AVC-I board.. it gives that 10 bit advantage that Evangelos was talking about.

In terms of your VariCam, the HPM110 can record the 720p signal in any frame rate you send it. You'll even be able to see the slow motion playback with no frame rate converter. The 110 cannot however upscale the input to 1080p as it is received. You send it 720 out of your camera and it will record that... however you could upscale on playback back out the HDSDI. It can upconvert, down convert, and also gamma correct your footage.

It will not record 4:4:4, it will record just about everything else.
