Question for BG

Most everything was shot in 1080/60p using the new PS recording mode. I was running through pretty much all settings at various times, so some shots were tests of the OIS (I was shooting handheld from a boat for a lot of that), some were tests of intelligent auto vs. manual, etc. Many of those shots were intelligent auto exposure, in which the camera sets every single parameter for you -- not just iris and white balance, but shutter speed, gamma, detail setting, everything.

When I was on manual exposure, I was using detail -1, coring -7, and color level +4, and cinelike-D gamma. Usually DRS was off, although some shots I experimented with it, especially in the palm tree forest section. Interestingly, intelligent auto can selectively choose to engage DRS as well. In general I don't like using DRS unless it's necessary, I prefer the gamma of cine-D, whereas DRS modifies the gamma by pushing around the low tones and midtones and dragging down the highs; it's great for uncontrollable situations but when you can control the lighting I like cine-D a lot more.

I didn't set out to capture "beauty footage", I was just running the camera through its paces; that video was a selection of shots that didn't look too bad. :)

I thought the shot of the shells on the beach and the last one of the boat moving away looked very good. If the AC90 can handle auto like that with the sun, sand and water then I'm pretty much sold. I hope the 24p does as well.

The only difference with 24p shooting is the DRS works differently, in the other frame rates it does huge amounts of manipulation and stretching, but in 24p it just brings the highlights down a little. Other than that, it's the same. Well, plus digital zoom doesn't work in 24p...
