Hey Barry,
I bought your DVX Book and DVD combo and I'm glad i did, lots of good stuff in an easy to access book (cant wait for the HVX book)
On page 111 for item 38/39 "AUDIO/VIDEO IN/OUT CONNECTORS" you state:
"The camera features an s-video port and 'RCA' yellow-red-white jacks for connecting to video devices, such as external monitors or VCR's. These ports are bi-directional for input/output, so you can display the DVX's image on an external monitor, or you could feed the DVX a video signal from an external deck or camera. You can also configure the camera to perform on-the-fly analog-to-digital conversion, by feeding a video signal into the video connectors, and the DVS will output a digital DV signal from its DV port. The s-video connector takes precedence over the composite (yellow) video port, and in order to record analog audio there must be a video signal present as well."
What I’m interested in is this: “You can also configure the camera to perform on-the-fly analog-to-digital conversion, by feeding a video signal into the video connectors, and the DVS will output a digital DV signal from its DV port.”
I have a VCR that I have hooked up via the RCA jacks and I want to transfer some vhs tapes to my computer for editing. As I don't have a capture card, I was elated to find out that I could use the DVX to do this on-the-fly conversion for me. Only problem is that I’m not sure I fully understand how to do it. I have tried it in both camera mode and VCR mode but I cant get it to work. I see the vhs image on the DVX screen while in camera mode but I cant get it to out put via the firewire to the computer. I’ve tried recording onto a tape at the same time also but it is the same problem.
Am I missing something here or did I not understand the book?
For the record, I'm using XP and PRemier Pro to capture. Also tried capturing with Roxio but also no go.
Thanks,
DSLAM
