Question about warranty in Australia (everywhere?)

Hi

I bought a HPX172 about a year ago. I am looking to sell it and need to clarify the warranty situation.

When I bought it there was a sticker on the camera saying something along the lines of "register online within 3 months and receive a 5 year warranty" I forgot to do that and now I'm wondering what the story is? Do I still get the 5 years warranty? Or just one year? I tried registering it online today and never got the confirmation email. I rang Panasonic and the place where I bought it and they just tell me to ring each other.

Does anyone know if you have to have registered online for the warranty?

Thanks for any help!

p.s. Anyone in Australia who wants a near mint HPX172 for AU4k let me know!

Hi Damien,

Hi Tom

I bought the camera last February 5th from the professional video store "John Barry Melbourne". It most certainly is not grey market etc. I wouldn't even call myself a weekend shooter. I own a bookshop and had dreams of being a "weekend shooter" but just never found the time or motivation. The camera has been used for 7 hours. The rest of the time it has been kept in the original box. It comes with a 16gb card and all the original accesseries that came in the box. I'm still trying to find out how long the warranty is etc. Even if the warranty is up 5th of Feb 4k is a still a good price IMHO. If tha camera has another four years warranty it's a bargain IMHO. I really can't be bothered trying to get top dollar. I'm just sick of having it depreciate whilst not being used.

Hope that helps.

Damien

Hi Damien,

As you purchased via an authorised Australian dealer you are able to register for the extra 4 year warranty. Normally this needs to happen within 3 months as the details with the camera state. If you have a problem registering let me know.

Hi Rob,
I have purchased The HPX172 from Damien just today, it will compliment my P2 SPX800 workhorse, Is the warranty transferable ? or is it all over. the camera has only 8hrs on the clock,
Damien said he just forgot to do the on line electronic warranty thing.
the standard 12months warranty runs out on the 5th of feb, next friday,

if this little HPX172 is as reliable as my SPX800, warranty won't be an issue, only thing that's worn out on the SPX800 is the flip out screen works intermitently, have not had time to take to melb and get it repaired, sandro R gave me heads up on cost etc.

Cheers for any advice

Hi Tom,
As it was not previously registered you'll be able to register for the balance no probs. Let us know if you have any difficuly. Enjoy.

Hi Rob,

Yes I tried to register on the Pana warranty site, it said the serial number "was" already registered and I could not register it, Is the warranty transferable from one owner to the next, or is it limited to the original owner.
Maybe it was just registered as the standard 12 month warranty by the dealer JB?

anyway, as I said earlier, if it's as solid a performer as my SPX800, warranty won't be an issue, only if it has an early terminal issue will there be a problem.
thanks for the reply.

Cheers
