Question about used DVX100/a/b

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of looking for my very first DVX. With the current recession and number of people switching to HD and all, I feel like it is a good time to buy. There are a lot of DVXs on the market now so I feel like I should have plenty to choose from.

Mainly I was wondering how long a DVX100/a/b will typically last. i.e How many hours on the heads should I be able to expect the camera to last if both the previous owner, and I, take good care of it. I'm obviously not looking for an exact number just a ballpark figure. Thanks for the help and I hope to hear from you guys soon!

The heads on a DVX100(A)(B) should last around 2000 hours with proper care. However, there is are easy and inexpensive ways to reduce head wear and extend the DVX's useful life.

1. Always use a cheap miniDV camcorder for playback, rewinding and capturing your footage to your computer.

2. Use a cheap camcorder as a slave unit to record what your DVX is shooting. This way, with no tape in the DVX's tape transport, wear and tear on the DVX's heads is completely eliminated!

Using a cheap camcorder as a slave has a number of benefits beyond just saving your DVX heads. It can be used to make an instant back up tape or to indefinitely extend recording time, like for long concerts and such.

Here's how to use a cheap camera as a slave unit:

ya, definately use a slave! its an amazing feature! and i am just saying, but if you have a big budget, you can also invest in a firestore external hard drive recorder.

Thank you guys so much. I'm excited about getting my hands on a nice camera to experiment and try some things out and all of your help and advice is greatly appreciated. Now all I have to do is find a good deal! Thanks again
