Question about the Sony HVR-Z1u n' DVX100a

I have been doing a lot of research lately in order to purchase 2 cameras for an Independent Film that I am producing... DVX100A vs. the Sony HVR-Z1u... I know that the HD generation will be coming into full effect within the next couple years but am wondering if it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the Z1u and then shoot on MiniDV for this project until the HD gen is needed... Also I have found numerous sites on the internet where the prices of the HVR-Z1u's are about $3400 and yet I don't understand how that could be possible.. Throughout the same searches I have found DVX100a's for as low as $1307 which blew my mind, because the majority of great prices I find this camera to be is around $2800 after rebate.. :) Any info on the subject or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... I am a 19 year old aspiring filmmaker working on a 1940's gangster flick with about a $25,000 budget... The colors of the film are Black, White & Red.. The high contrasts of black and white are going to be a big deal to me, this is how the possibility of purchasing the Sony came to be.. Thanks to all..

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. I've never heard of digitalsaver but I can tell you right now that it's a scam. If you're unsure about the reputability of a company look them up on http://www.resellerratings.com

I checked on reseller and digitalsaver has no reputation whatsoever, in fact they didn't even come up. Digitalsaver does however have an ad for broadway photo on their webpage, and broadway photo is well known for scamming people and pulling bait and switch tactics. for more info on broadway photo here's a link to their rating on reseller. http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1995.html

The prices on digitalsaver are ridiculously low. It lists an HDR-FX1 at 1500 dollars. scamscamscamscamscam. If you want a good deal on Sony HDV just wait till after NAB. I imagine a lot of people will be selling their cameras after the HVX and JVC are premiered.

Oh yeah, didn't really put in my two cents about your project. If you don't think you need HD, don't buy HD. Maybe you should be looking at the at the DVX and Xl2. Then again, if I had 25,000 I'd be looking at HD, and I'd be waiting for the HVX to drop.

Buying the Z1 and then shooting in DV would be a mistake, because the Z1 can convert HD into DV on the fly. You might as well shoot in HD, then digitize it in DV so that later you can bump up your project to HD if the need arises.

the conversion inside the Z1 is not as fluent and nice as the conversion done in FCP. So if you have HDV why not take the luxury to be able to scale and crop as you like, into SD If you don't want to do a HDV-Flim-blowup.
