Question about the Manfrotto telephoto lens support bracket.

I just purchased a cheap canon FD 300m lens for my AF-100 and am thinking I will need some kind of support on my tripod for it and I came across the Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support:

which has great reviews, cheap and seems to get the job done, but I really don't understand how it fits on to the tripod (should the head it comes with just screw into the 1/4 inch screw on my tripod plate?) and if you need a Manfrotto tripod for some reason for it to work or not. I have a a Libec H38 Tripod:

Any info would be helpful as I'm trying to make this purchase tonight. Thanks!

The canon FD 60-300mm lens weighs only 1 pound and the lumix 14mm-140mm weighs 1.4 and doesn't need support, but the canon is longer.... Would I even need the support system? I'm new to all this guys, sorry.

That lens should be fine as long as no one walks into it (but that's true of most lenses), in which case the whole tripod might fall over anyways.

Haha alright I just don't want to put too much stress on my mount I know there are much larger lenses out there that would def require support system. Is there a weight/length limit standard for the mount on the af-100?
