question about the lens assembly

hey everybody, I've been lurking in the shadows but havent had the dvx very long so I wanted to learn something before babbling. my name is sean and i'm a senior at the UW studing media production and design, and have a tendancy to modify things...

anyway after ditching the jvc dv500 (i still miss it, but what can you do about pro-scan) I've been researching the homebuilt 35mm relay lenses and have began constructing my own and in the process aquired an old sony DKC-5000 "catseye" digital still camera. waaay before memory stick and all that sh*t this is an old sony ccd camera that actually utilized 3 1/2" video ccd's to capture 3 pixel-offset images producing 1544 x 1120 images (with 795Hx598V chips). i will play with that later but was wondering if anyone has removed the factory leica lens from the camera body? if not for purely experimental reasons, im thinking of making my relay adapter adjustible so I can change the effective back focus of the system and run 1/2" bayonet mount lenses directly into the ccds... so far I can only find the two small screws in the front that look like they hold anything together up front.. maybe something behind that front plate? anyone ever messed with it? or if anyone knows where to get a service manual.. maybe they might talk about lens removal.

TIA - look forward to meeting you all!

Re: question about the lens assembly

Hey Sean, Welcome
UW as in yoo DUb, university of washington. I'm not to far away from you, I'm majoring in photography over here in Central Washington University. Sorry, I can't help you much with your question, I have only taken the front lens protective shade off once, and that was to clean the lens. I don't think I would even consider unscrewing anything else. But good luck to you, and it's nice knowing someone from around my neck of the woods.

Re: question about the lens assembly

Most of the lens is embedded in the magnesium alloy chassis of the DVX. What you're proposing would require major modifications to the chassis, re-routing controls and completely rebuilding the camera. I don't think anyone's attempted to convert the DVX to a bayonet mount camera. seems like a massive amount of work for a dubious end result. However, there's loads of work to do coming up with a good relay system--that should keep you busy enough.
